Custom football kit quote: from brief to finished shirt
September 16, 2026
Getting a custom football kit quote starts with a brief, not a builder. You describe what you want, a person reads it, and you get a price built around your actual design. Here is exactly how the process works, what to prepare before you reach out, and how to get a quote that comes back with a real number.
What "custom" actually means (and what it doesn't)
Search for a custom football kit and most results are configurators. You pick a template, choose from eight or ten colours, type a name and number, and submit. The factory processes your order alongside thousands of others. According to Decathlon My Club, sublimated football shirts from configurator suppliers start at £19.50 per shirt (excl. VAT). The results look like it.
A genuine custom commission works differently. There is no template. You describe the colorway, the collar style, the badge placement, the sleeve detail. A person at a workbench makes your shirt to that spec, by hand. When it ships, it is the only one.
That distinction matters when you want a kit that looks like yours, not like every other team that used the same builder.
What to prepare before you get a quote
The cleaner your brief, the faster the quote. Work through these four things before you reach out:
- The colorway. Primary and secondary colours. Reference a club you like the look of, send a hex code, or describe it in plain language.
- The badge or crest. If you have artwork, bring the file. If you want us to sketch something from a description, say that. No badge at all is also fine.
- Names and numbers. Font preference, placement, size. Most people want standard back placement; some want sleeve numbering or a specific typeface.
- Your deadline. A season kick-off or a cup fixture date changes the production timeline. Tell us the date and we will tell you honestly whether we can hit it.
You do not need answers to all of these before you get in touch. The brief is a conversation. But the more you have ready, the quicker a concrete price comes back.
How the quote process works
Request a quote by filling in the brief on the quote page. Tell us the club or team name, the number of shirts, what you have in mind for the design, and your preferred timeline. Attach any reference images that show the kind of thing you are after.
We review every brief within 24 hours. We may come back with a question or two before we price. Once we understand the design, you get a price built around your specific request. Nothing is made until you confirm.
No payment is taken at the quote stage. The quote is free.
What a handmade kit costs
| Product | Price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| The Street | €110 | Clean colorway, name and number, standard cut |
| The Classic | €120 | Classic cut, badge up to four colours, full personalisation |
| The Terrace | €130 | Terrace-style cut, collar detail, badge work included |
| The Commission | €180 | Fully bespoke: complex badge, unusual fabric, multi-element design |
These are per-shirt prices. There is no minimum order for individual commissions. You can commission a single shirt or a full squad run. Each shirt is made by hand individually, so a run of twelve costs twelve times the per-shirt price.
If you are a club administrator working to a budget, describe the number of shirts and the design on the quote page and we will come back with a price that fits your club's needs.
Lead time: what to expect
Simple commissions, a name and number on a clean colorway, typically take two to three weeks from design approval to your door. Complex badge work or unusual fabric specifications take longer. Production runs three working days from an approved mockup; shipping across Europe adds time depending on your location.
If you are working to a specific date, put it in the brief. We will not take on an order we cannot deliver on time.
Where can I design my own custom football kit?
Most platforms give you a template and a colour picker. That is a configuration, not a commission. At Own Kit, you send a brief, a description of what you want, and we build the design around it. There is no locked template, no preset colour menu. The shirt exists because you described it.
If you want to see the starting points, the product pages show the cuts and styles available. Each one is a blank canvas, not a finished design you are colouring in.
Why the price difference is worth it
Every shirt leaves here as a one-off. Nobody else has it.
A factory shirt is made at volume, on a fixed cut, with no adjustment for your proportions or badge placement. If you want the crest two centimetres lower, that option does not exist.
A handmade shirt is made once, for you. The collar is the one you chose. The colorway exists because you described it. Properly stitched work on quality fabric holds for years; heat-pressed numbers on cheap polyester peel after a season or two of washing.
Over the life of the shirt, the price difference narrows considerably.
